Summer Sandals Inspiration

I have been enjoying some golden summer days this week-- my son's baseball games are finally over, the weather here is beautiful (high 80s, no wind-- that no wind part is amazing for Idaho!) and we finally have a little time to relax and enjoy some gorgeous summer nights outside. This mood has definitely carried over into my project for the week as here is a picture of something from my closet that inspired my card today:

My current favorite pair of sandals! I love sandals, I would wear them all year if I could. Unfortunately, the snow here kind of limits that but I do basically wear them April through October anyway! I love the big flowers on these sandals and so I borrowed this element and translated it into a summer card.

I made my flowers from sheets of artist canvas-- the ones that are ready to be put through a computer printer. I found a chipboard flower I liked and traced it three times. The first flower I cut right on my tracing lines, the second slightly smaller and the third slightly bigger. Then I stitched down the middle of each petal to copy the stitching on my sandals and put them together with a brad. I love the result!

Other supplies used:
Bo Bunny Double Dot Paper-- Gingerbread and Sunflower
Echo Park Summer Days Designer Paper (yellow with white polka dots)
Tim Holtz Distress Ink-- Vintage Photo
Seam Binding-- White
My Little Shoebox Mini Alphabet Stickers-- Butter
Kaisercraft Pearls-- Yellow
Bo Bunny Bodacious Brads (On Clearance, a super great price!)
Miscellaneous tag and doily
Glue Dots

I hope you are enjoying a little summer (or winter) sunshine this week, depending on where you live and you have time to fit a little paper crafting into those relaxation hours! You still have a few more days to enter our Inspiration from Your Closet Challenge so make sure to get your project posted for a chance to win!

Black and White With A Splash

Hi Everybody...it's Lori here with my version of the current challenge * drawing inspiration from your closet.  I have to admit most of the time you'll find me in black and white with a splash of color...so this card seemed to fit me to a T and looks like majority of my closet :)

I created the handmade flower and the card using Echo Park's "For the Record". This is a super cute collection that is so versatile.  The red pearls are from KaiserCraft Basics and they really add a nice detail.  It's the little things that can really bump a card to a mini work of art. Here is the best part...there are a ton of KaiserCraft Basic rhinestones and pearls in the bargain bin right now for just $1...so stock up.

For the leaf flourish I used a sticker from For The Record and applied it to a sheet of cardstock and then cut it out so there was a pop of color around the edge. Creating that border really made it stand out.

I can't wait to see what next weeks challenge will be and share my version of it with you.  Have a great week until next Thursday.

Hugs

A little texture from my closet

Well for this week I opened up my closet and all I saw as alway is lots of solid colors so when I went looking for paper I saw the paper from Echo Park, it maybe busy paper but lots of colors so I figured it would be perfect, I also added some thing for texture and that is my Mulberry Puppy Oliver the Dog.

My closet, or yours?

Link
Hi! It's Gini back again today. Well, you've had a week to discover that the Beary Scrap's Challenge is to be inspired by something in your closet. This week, I got my new Echo Park Country Drive collection, and I loved it so much, I knew I had to make it work for this week's challenge. As many of you know, my sweet sister Lori has moved right next door to me - and one of the perks that comes with that, is that we can now share what's in our closets! This is a picture of Lori and our Mom, taken a couple of years ago, at the Teacher's Luncheon, that Lori hosted. The theme was bees - and thus you can see the inspiration for today's project.

Don't you just love all of those bees?!!! I used a new stamp from Layers of Color Art stamps, and first colored it with Copics. I cut and colored and shaped a 2nd image of the bee and flowers, and highlighted them with Sakura Crystal 3-D Lacquer. I used a large Martha Stewart punch, and of course, had to add some Seam Binding ribbon.

Thanks for buzzing by today!

Pretty In Pink

Hi folks! This week the Beary Scrap design team is showing more samples for our Beary Sweet "Closet Inspiration" challenge. I've been a little worried about my *ahem* dullness-on-hangers, but guess what I found in my closet? Pink! A pink sweater with a cream strip down the sleeve, to be exact. It's a favorite although I can't imagine donning a sweater these days!

Anyway, here's what came of my pink and cream inspiration:

I used Stickles and Glossy Accents on the hand to make it pop.

Thanks so much for stopping in today! There's plenty of time to get your "Closet Inspiration" challenge project linked up HERE! You could win a $20 gift voucher to The Beary Scrap. Good luck, and i hope you have a great week!

Inspiration from The Closet. . . .

Just not my closet! For my project this week, I decided to go a little different route with the clothing inspiration and use an article of clothing in the pictures I wanted to scrap as inspiration for my page.

I wanted to scrap my son's 4 year old portraits and so I took the shirt that he was wearing and scanned it on my scanner, printing out my own designer paper to use on my layout. This saved me a ton of time searching through my stash looking for just the right colors to match the pictures-- the paper was already perfect!

For other papers I did stick to the main colors in the plaid print and also added some buttons that look just like the ones on his shirt.

Supplies used:

Bo Bunny Double Dot cardstock
My Mind's Eye Fine & Dandy True Blue papers (orange)
Bo Bunny Ad Lib papers (Green lined and banner circles)
Tim Holtz Distress Ink-- Faded Jeans
Miscellaneous buttons
Divine Twine Grey
Metal Charm
Glue Dots

I hope you will all take the Inspiration from Your Closet Challenge and show us what you come up with . Enter your project in our current Beary Sweet Challenge by July 31 11:59 EST for you chance to win!

Party !!!!

Hi Everyone.  Today I have created a fun card that was inspired by something in my closet.  Wondering what that might be...it's the Polka Dots.  I adore polka dots and have so many shirts, hand bows and even shoes with polka dots.

The card was created using Echo Park's Summer Days.  This collection is so bright and cheery for the summer season.  All I kept singing while I made this card was "Yellow Polka Dot Bikini"...which is funny as I can't image wearing one of those, LOL.  I used the coordinating chipboard from Summer Days and took one of the chipboard flowers, punched a larger hole in the center to be able to run the ribbon through and close the card.
I really had fun with the challenge this week, it was so out of the box.  Honestly it goes to show you can get inspiration for your work from anywhere...even your closet.

See ya next week,

Home Tweet Home

Well for our new challenge it was a little bit hard for me but it wouldn't be a challenge if it was to easy and its a good way to make you really think about what to do. Just like Susan I don't have a lot of colors or patterns in my cloths. Most of what I wear is solid colors and for the most part neutral colors. But today I was actually wearing a shirt that was a bright blue and I decided to use the color from my shirt for this card. The birds are the color of the shirt.

As soon as I saw this pattern "Home Tweet Home" from Beary Sweet Designs I knew I wanted to cut this out. All pieces were inked with Colorbox Ink and Stickled. They were Pop Dotted to my background paper from Echo Park Country Drive, new at The Beary Scrap Store. I added some Teal Blue Pearls to my card and the whole card and paper piecing was glued together with Fabri-Tac Glue.

Favorite Blue Jeans

Hi! It's Gini with my new card for the Beary Scrap, and I have to admit, this challenge was my idea. Look in your closet and find some inspiration for your project, from one of your favorite things to wear. This can be clothes, jewelry, accessories - you name it! If you can wear it, let it be your inspiration.

I love embellished jeans, so I added a ribbon of old denim, with a strip of paper, and Dew Drops over it. I adhered the denim with Scor-tape which held it perfectly. The papers are from Prima's Sweet Fairy line, (including the cute tickets that I cut from one of the pages.) The stamps/dies are from Prickley Pear.

Closet Inspiration

Happy Monday to all our crafty friends! This week the design team is showing you new inspiration for our current "Find Inspiration In Your Closet" challenge. When I stood in my closet I was struck by how... er ... boring my wardrobe is these days. I wear a lot of black and khaki and don't go in for the fun and funky detailing you see on a lot of fashion these days. In lieu of the fancy stuff and avoiding the flowery knickers in my girly drawer (for your sake, really), I decided to love all over my purple and green plaid linen bathrobe. Hey! It's not as dorky as it sounds!

Click for a bigger view!
I adore Prima floral papers and was happy to find a few that coordinate with the ol' cover-up. :) The bird and cage were made using a Tim Holtz/Sizzix die. The bird from a scrap of Prima paper and the cage from really thin cherry wood paper.

Inspiration Challenge

Welcome to our brand new Beary Sweet Challenge- it was awesome to see all your lovely entries for our last sketch challenge and I can't wait to see what you do with this one! So our challenge this time is to take a piece of our favorite clothing and use it as inspiration for a project-- well, the very first thing that came to my mind was. . . . can you guess what this is?

You got it! A pair of very comfortable jeans-- I know everyone has their favorite pair that they love to pull on and they are just as comfy as a pair of sweats or pajamas. And so using that as my inspiration, I have used denim on my baseball layout this week.

For the base of my layout, I used tan cardstock and a piece of red Bo Bunny Double Dot both edged with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Fired Brick. Then I sewed an old piece of lightweight denim right on top of that. I have a pile of old jeans in my basement that someday I am going to sew a quilt out of (emphasis on someday, I am sure it is going to be a long time from now!) Until that day, they are great for cutting little pieces out of for scrapbook projects. I sewed a double line with yellow thread to mimic the sewing on old a pair of jeans and then also sewed around the journaling spot circle to make it look like a baseball. The journaling circle is cut the from My Mind's Eye Fine & Dandy True Blue paper line.

I also die cut some stars out of denim on my old Sizzix machine, it's not high tech but it works great for fabric! Other embellishments include a cardstock star, tickets(which are actually Valentines' themed but I covered up the love words!), baseball woven ribbon, yellow bakers' twine and some 3-D baseball stickers.

I can't wait to see what the rest of our lovely DT ladies have in store for us with this theme and to see your projects too. Make sure to enter your project in our current challenge and share some inspiration with us!

So Excited to Be Here

I'm so thrilled to be starting my guest designer spot with Beary Scrap.  What fun the next three months are going to be.

There is nothing that can sneak up on you any faster than Christmas...so believe it or not now is the time to start those Christmas Cards.  This is a simple but cute card I did using Webster's Pages Waiting For Santa/ Sweet Season 6 x 6 pad.  I adore all the versatile papers you get with Webster's Pages...some are so unique with their graphic designs, but other are just elegant with rich patterns.  Needless to say it makes a great mix.

I look forward to seeing you next week with another great project.  Oh and don't forget our sketch challenge that is going on.  It's fun and you might just win!

Hugs

Bottle of Blessings

Are you having a great summer? It seems to be going by way too fast! My nephew starts Kindergarten today (he's in year-round-school). If it's too hot to play outside, then maybe you should pull out your scrappy stash and make something beautiful!

This is week two for the sketch challenge at the Beary Scrap - and my card today highlights Bo Bunny's Gabrielle Collection. This is my favorite Bo Bunny line ever! My stamp is Message on a Bottle from Crafty Secrets, and I colored it with Copics, and fussy cut it out. I added some Dew Drops from the Robin's Nest. All of the paper edges are inked with Distress Ink. Finally, I finished it off with some seam binding ribbon.

There are a few days left to play along with our challenge, and we have a great prize up for grabs!

Happy Birthday!

Hey there crafty folks! I hope you had a great weekend. This week the Beary Scrap design team is showing more samples for our current Sketch Challenge & Blog Candy. On Thursday our next Guest Designer is sharing her first project with us. I can't wait to see what Lori Leng of Pinkcloud Scrappers will show us first! At the end of the week Jamie will usher in a new challenge and we will announce our winners on Sunday the 17th. We have a busy week in store for you!

I've gone whimsical and cute for this week's project. I knew I wanted to color my new Balloon Kaylee stamp and went poking through my papers to find a good match. Lo and behold I found the cutest My Mind's Eye Alphabet Soup papers. I forgot I had them!

Click the pic for a larger view
I combined 2 lines from My Mind's Eye - Alphabet Soup for the papers and Tickled Pink for the ric-rac and brad inside the big flower. I love how these 2 lines coordinate!

Kaylee is layered and I'm still decided whether to use Star Dust Stickles on either the headband or balloon. It seems needed up there, but I'm not sure which to do. What do you think?

Oh, and the "Happy Birthday" stamp included with Kaylee will go on the inside panel.

Jamie's Christmas in July

Merry Christmas everyone! At least I hope you have enjoyed our Christmas in July projects this week and definitely hope you have entered your own project in our current challenge for your chance to win that great Christmas Magnolia stamp and some other goodies.

Here is my second go at the current sketch, this time a 5 x 7 Christmas card:

The base of my card is Bo Bunny Double Dot in a dark green and then I used the My Mind's Eye Lost & Found Union Square papers for the center. I trimmed the die cut edges from one of the papers and used those for my edges instead of punching my own fancy edge-- this worked perfect!

For my image I downloaded a FREE vintage Christmas graphic from this site: Vintage Christmas Images-- check it out for Christmas and lots of other vintage images. I added a bit of lace, pearls and a tiny bit of red Stickles (to match the glittered designer paper) to my Santa to dress him up before applying him to my card.

I used white seam binding spritzed with Brick Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist to go behind the Santa image and then tie the bow at the top and accented with some holly leaves and pearls. I absolutely love how easy it is to spray that seam binding to match any project! I am now totally out of white I have used it so much- time to restock!

You have one more week to enter your projects based on our sketch so time to get craftin' and good luck!

Christmas in July with the Beary Scrap

I've just gotten back from the beach - and I'm jumping from complete summer time mode into Christmas in July! That's right - at the Beary Scrap for the next two weeks, we are featuring a new sketch as well as our Christmas in July theme. Maybe that will keep things cooled off around here.

I used some of my Merry Christmas paper pack from Echo Park. These packs are always great for putting together a quick card, since the papers all coordinate, plus there are matching stickers. I stamped my holly from Chapel Road Artstamps on a journaling card that was in the paper pack. I added some burgandy Stickles for the holly berries. I made my embellie at the top of the card using my Epiphany Crafts 14 mm round tool, and made the custom acrylic button with the Echo Park Paper. The white setting is also from Epiphany Crafts, but then I put it all on top of a red snowflake sticker that was also in the pack. I finished everything off with a little seam binding.

Christmas in July Sketch

Hello crafty friends! I hope all our American readers are having fabulous Independence Day celebrations. Today we celebrate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.  July 4, 1776 was a monumental day in the history of the newly formed United States of America. Today we celebrate with parties, fireworks and pools. It's one big birthday party for the nation. Happy birthday!

So, with that said... here at The Beary Scrap we're in the midst of our July Sketch Challenge. The design team is shaking it up a bit by adding a Christmas in July theme to our projects. Notice how that happens to go with our Christmas in July blog candy? Hey, we planned it right!

Of course, I'm ignoring the fact that I'm posting a Christmas card on July 4th...  but can't red and green be considered national colors, too? *grin*

This is Magnolia's "Tilda with Fir" and happens to be the stamp included with our challenge blog candy. Isn't she adorable? This is a pretty simple card made with papers that really seemed to do the designing work for me. They are from a Webster's Pages 6x6 pack. See the background paper? I used the front of the stack for this layer. Underneath the plaid layer is the "petit papers" logo - it's like getting an extra sheet in an already fabulous paper pad!
