Easter Greetings

Hello! Hello! I hope you had a wonderful Spring weekend. I spent mine at Grandma's, where the crocus and daffodils are blooming and brightening the otherwise dreary landscape. It was a cold weekend here in Maryland, but the sun shined bright . :)

Can you believe it's already Easter?! Here in our Beary Scrappy neighborhood the eggs are hidden and the kids are ready to hunt! Here's Sweet Tilda, patiently waiting for the OK. She doesn't have far to look, does she?
I've used Easter paper from Best Creation, and boy was it a treat! It's a nice weight and has just the right balance of "glittery shiny" and flat. I didn't feel the need to add a single drop of anything shiny to the paper...  now *that's* a time saver! I distressed the small blue layer with scissors, and lightly inked edges of all the Best Creation papers with chalk ink.

I really like Colorbox chalk inks because of their layering capabilities. Once a layer is dried, another layer can be added on top - much like coloring with Copics or Pencils. The layers blend together well and dry to a soft, matte finish. The Cat's Eye stamp pad is perfectly sized to dab quickly around the edges.

Tilda is colored with pencils and her skirt is double layered with a touch of lace. Her trim is touched with Stickles, and she's raised up on Glue Dots for added dimension.
I cut out small glittered eggs from the "Easter Words" card stock, chalk inked the edges and tucked them into the grass on Glue Dots. I used my trusty sewing machine to finish the edges!

Card Recipe
Stamp: Magnolia's Sweet Tilda
Paper: Bazzill Guacamole and an unknown brilliant blue; Best Creation "Easter Words" and "Playful Easter"
Medium: Prismacolor Pencils and OMS; Stickles "Star Dust"; Glimmer Mist Pearl; Colorbox Cat's Eye Fluid Chalk Ink "Creamy Brown"
Embellishments: Kaisercraft Pearls in Snow; Prima flowers; miscellaneous from stash

Thanks for stopping in this week - tomorrow you can see Patricia's delightful project!

Cheers,
Susan

Happy Birthday from Gini!

I'm wrapping up another week with The Beary Scrap design team. Haven't the other Beary Scrappy Gals done a fantastic job of inspiring you this week, with their Birthday Creations? The next birthday my family will be celebrating is for my nephew Will. He will be 9 years old in April, and is such a blessing to us all!

Most joy fold cards are rectangular, and if you look at my blog often, you can tell that I am partial to 6 x 6 cards. So, I will share the dimensions that I used to make my card. I used Bazzill cardstock for the base of my card. Cut a 6" x 8.5" base and score at 2.5". Cut another piece of cardstock 4" x 8", and score at 4". I always use my ScorPal while making cards. This is one of those investments, that at the time I thought, "do I really need this?" and now I couldn't live without it! If you make any cards, then you really need this piece of equipment!

Now, back to the card - LOL! You have your two base cards, and you can now "dress" them however you would like. Basically, you end up with two cards -a large card that is 6" on the bottom with a 2.5" flap with the fold on the left and a little 4" x 4" card with the fold on the right. You will glue the small card to the center of the big card. (Hopefully, when you look at my pictures, this will make sense!) Any time I am gluing down lots of layers, that I really need to stick, I use Scor-tape. This stuff will hold anything! It's great for adding ribbon and other embellishments.

I personally like a lot of layers to my cards - so I cut a layer of "glow" yellow Bazzill for framing all of my designer paper. I then used the Basic Grey Sugar Rush 6" paper pad for all of my designer papers. Something that I didn't realize for a long time is that the 6" paper pads are made specifically for card makers - the patterns are the same as the 12 x 12 sheets, but they are scaled down, making them perfect for cardmaking. They are always such an economical way to go, too. After I glued my paper, I headed to the sewing machine and added stitching on all of the layers. I added a border that I punched using the Martha Stewart Garden Trellis punch, to my front flap. This is a great border to run ribbon through. It would be lovely on a scrapbook page as well!

I then distressed the edges of the glow cardstock, and added my digi image - Herbert the Turtle Birthday Set, from Karen's Doodles. I colored him with Copics and added Flower Soft - Spring for my icing. This color looks perfect with the Sugar Rush line. I printed the little round birthday sentiment from Louby Lou's, sprayed it with Tiger Lilly Glimmer Mist and added dimensionals underneath it, to tuck my turtle image behind.

I hope you enjoyed our birthday celebrations this week. Monday will start a new theme for the Beary Scrappy Gals, so be sure to come back and see what we are cooking up!

A Bag, a Tag and a Card

Happy Birthday to You! Happy Birthday to You! Happy Birthday -- oh no! I don't have anything to wrap your present in. . . .
Don't you hate it when you are in a hurry to get to some birthday event and you rush to your supply of gift bags and wrap to find that you only have a bag for a New Baby or a purple bag when you are headed to celebrate a birthday for a boy?

I don't know about you, but this happens to me quite often. Lately I have taken to just stocking up on plain colored bags and then making a card specifically for that person that matches the bag-- I am a little OCD about things matching! But take the time to whip up a couple of these sets of matching tags, bags and cards and you will be set for anyone's birthday-- male, female, child or adult.

My project this week is a matching bag, tag and card made using Bazzill In Stich'z Surprise Party stitching templates (which are on sale!) and floss. I have never really handstitched much, either on cloth or paper, so this was a totally new experience for me. It was so fun!

I used a paper piercer and the template to punch holes in my Bazzill cardstock-- I used a light brown and was really pleased with the results, it matched my Kraft colored bag nicely (remember how I like that matching stuff!). Then I sat and stitched while watching Dancing with the Stars on Monday night (one of my favs-- who do you think is going to win Season 10? I don't know quite who I am rooting for yet!) and just had a great time. It was so easy!

Pretty soon, I was mixing the designs together (i.e. the balloons are empty in the middle on the template, but I added some more squiggles over the top) and even free-stitched a little of my own such as the stripes on the candle. The next day even my kids were like "Wow, Mom, you did that?" Pretty impressive, I know. :) These templates are great-- I have already got my eye on the 8x8 flower template I want to get next!

Then I just mounted my stitched accents by machine stitching them to some Bo Bunny Popsicle papers, (Banana Split, Fruit Punch and Juicy Orange) then onto white which is distressed with Tim Holtz Broken China ink. The orange patterned paper on the bag was punched with a border punch and I used random ribbons from my stash for the handle of the bag. I used the Popsicle Combo Cardstock stickers to add "Birthday" to my stitching to give it some variety and then some Bo Bunny Buttons & Bling Popsicle buttons to finish it off.

I really love these Bo Bunny Popsicle papers-- the colors are so bright and fun they could be used for a great variety of projects-- birthday, sports, boys or girls, family gatherings, summer days, parties, carnivals, etc. To see a Summer layout I made earlier with some of these cute papers, visit my blog. And be sure to check back here tomorrow, at The Beary Scrap Design Team, for some more birthday inspiration!

Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday
Who wouldn't love to get a Birthday card with this cute little Tear Bear on it?
She is ready to help you celebrate your big day with her cupcake and balloons!

When I saw this paper by Best Creations it said fun all over it. I punched out the balloons and colored them with Color Box Ink. All the shapes on the card were made using using different Spellbinders.

The Beary Scrap has so many different colors of Mulberry Paper and Kimm has just received another shipment so the shelves are filled. You can make so many different colors of bears. The Beary Scrap also has Acrylic Template Patterns to make all kinds of torn critters.  New to the store is Bella the Bunny and Charlie the Chick

If you've never tried a tear bear, check out the Tear Bear Tutorial blog for loads of how-to information!

Here is a look at the inside of the card. This is the reverse side of the paper from Best Creation. I added some more fun balloons and added some pretty bows to them. I also added a cute cupcake button to the card.

Make sure you come back all week to see what else we have for you!

It's the First Day of Spring!!!!

How lucky am I? My "Spring" post for the Beary Scrap actually falls on the first day of spring! I have to tell you, yesterday, it really felt like spring - the sun was shining and it was 67 degrees - just perfect. I actually took my copics outside on my porch and colored this. It was just wonderful!

Well onto the card! I am so excited that the Beary Scrap is carrying Magnolia stamps and this one is just so cute! I almost always use Bazzill for my base card, because there is such a great range of colors and textures. For my patterned paper I used Basic Grey's Nook and Pantry. I think this is one of my all time favorite collections. I love anything retro and kitschy - and this fits the bill. I added texture to my card by using the Swiss Dots embossing folder from Cuttlebug, and sewed some antique lace around to frame sweet little Tilda. Finally to finish it off, I added some pearls.

I hope you have enjoyed our Spring inspiration for you? What are you going to make to celebrate spring? Be sure to come back on Monday to the Beary Scrap DT Blog - we will have another fun week of ideas to inspire you.

Spring Fever

"Spring is when you feel like whistling, even with a shoe full of slush" (Doug Larson)-- isn't this so true? As I was making my project for this week's post, it was a BEAUTIFUL day outside-- sunny and 60 degrees with the meadowlarks chirping and my kids out riding their bikes. And yet, my deck is still covered with snow and the weatherman predicts more snow/slush for this Friday! Aah, it's spring in my part of the country-- Idaho -- where every other minute is a different type of weather. I'm sure spring fever is hitting other parts of the country too and what better thing to do when the weather starts to turn than a little spring cleaning. My project this week may help you get motivated to take on those Spring projects.

My project this week is a super cute to-do notebook that you can whip up in no time at all. And who knows?? If you have something fun to keep track of your lists and projects, you might actually try to get those lists done. Plus, if your house is like mine and notebooks often disappear from my desk/purse/office and come back full of all types of doodles and drawings, maybe this notebook will be so obviously "Mom's" that nobody will take it from you. (At least I know my husband won't be taking it, too flowery and cutesy for him!) In any case, get yourself a nice, new notebook that is just for you (this one is just from WalMart) and cover and embellish to your heart's content!
My notebook is covered with Basic Grey Sugar Rush (on sale this week!) -- I love the fun, bright colors in this collection. I used Peanut Brittle for the front cover and one of the pockets, Candy Hearts for another pocket and the green back side of Candy Hearts for the back cover. I distressed all the papers with Tim Holtz distressing ink in Peeled Paint. Then I raided my ribbon scraps and tied a bunch of matching ribbons through the spiral binding. I added a couple of journaling cards to the front and used rub-on letters for the title "To Do." A few Prima flowers completes the front. (Check out the My Mind's Eye rub on alphabets on sale!)
Inside I used more paper just to cover the front of the pockets (handy for slipping in notes, appointments, receipts, etc. but they can still look cute!) and added rub-on titles there too. All finished in no time.
So celebrate Spring this week, no matter where you live, and treat yourself to your very own cute "To Do" notebook and then go tackle those Spring Cleaning projects. Happy Spring everyone! And be sure to check back tomorrow for more Spring inspiration to keep that Spring Fever high!

It's Getting Warmer Outside.

I'm so glad the weather is finally warming up. We hope our spring week will help warm you up a little more as well.
For this week when I saw this cute little stamp online in The Beary Scrap I knew that I had to get it, and Flower Soft was written all over it.
She is Star Girl by Penny Johnson from the Stampavie Line.

I have been wanting to try something new, embossing on acetate. This was really fun to try and believe it or not this was my first time and it worked! The butterfly's were punched out with Martha Stewart punches. I also added some pretty flowers to the front of the card. The oval was cut out with Spellbinders. The paper is from Basic Grey Sugar Rush Licorice (on sale this week in the store). I also add pearls

Here is a closer look at how the stamped impression on the acetate looks. It's pretty easy to emboss on the acetate you just have to watch out how hot it gets and back off when it looks like it's going to melt. Then go back over it.

Here is what it looks like with a different color paper behind it so you can get a better look at it.

Here she is on the inside, the Flower Soft looks so pretty on her bouquet, I also added Stickles (on sale this week in the store) to the leaves and stars on her dress. She was colored with Copics and I also added glaze to the bow. I used the Copic blender marker to make the dots on her dress

I hope you liked my card and come back tomorrow to see what else we have for you here at The Beary Scrap Design Team.

Here's the Last Day of St. Patrick's Day Inspiration

Hi, It's Gini here with you today. Are you all ready for St. Patty's Day after seeing the great inspiration from the Beary Scrappy Gals this week? I'm going to a St. Patrick's Day party this afternoon, and I can't wait to eat a yummy Reuben sandwich! Well, I've got my card to share with you today. I didn't really have any St. Patrick's day stamps or paper, so this just goes to show you what you can do with everyday products. I really LOVE the Kraftin' Kimmie stamps! This little cutie is Lillith. I colored her with copics, and used some DP from Basic Grey's Sugar Rush line to paper piece her dress. I used papers from My Little Shoebox (Imagine a Forest - Happy Trees, Get the Camera), and then Bazill for the base CS. The crown is a glimmer chip from Tattered Angels and was colored with Glimmer Mist spray. I printed my sentiment on the computer and then cut it out using Spellbinders Ribbon Tag Trio II.

On the inside of the card, I printed another sentiment, and used my cuttlebug embossing borders to add the flowers. I have really gotten to the point that I love stitching on my cards, so I added a few rows of machine stitching in metallic gold thread to help pop the message. The little frog is the accessory stamp that comes with Lillith.

I wish all of you the Luck of the Irish this week, and be sure to check back tomorrow to see the exciting things we will have for you next week! Remember, you can get all of these goodies and so many more from the Beary Scrap!

Another "Lucky To Have You!"

Hello Friends!  Welcome Back.  Thank goodness it's Friday.  It's Kimm again with another beautiful layout from Michelle B.

I must agree with Jamie, we are so LUCKY to have our children in our lives.  Good Times and bad, they enhance our being, grace our souls, and embellish our every moment.

The Origins Collection by Basic Grey seems to be a very popular choice this week. It is such a beautiful line with endless possibilities. You can dress it up to be "girly" or dress it down for a more masculine look. It is one of my personal favorites to play with.
Michelle started with some Bazzill Cardstock as her base and began layering different patterns from the Origins Collection.  The title "Lucky" was sprayed with some Glimmer Mist, which gave a softer appearance.  Together with some rich brown ribbon and gorgeous Petaloo and Prima Flowers, I love the way these colors came together.

To break up some of green, Michelle created these "flourishes" with some Robins's Nest Dew Drops.  Each dew drop was meticulously hand-placed and adhered to the page using glue dots. What a neat look, and the colors match so perfectly.  I wish  you could see this layout up close and in person.  Pictures do this no justice.
I hope you've enjoyed another stunning creation from our Beary Scrappy Team.  We hope to see you back here again tomorrow.

HUGS & Smiles

Lucky to Have You!

Happy Thursday everyone! Do you believe in luck? Fate? Coincidence? None of the above? Well, I don't know for sure about all of those but I do know that I am truly LUCKY to have three beautiful children (I may be a bit biased-- sorry!) and that was the inspiration for my layout this week. And I know all of you have someone (kids, friends, spouse, pets, parents, etc) that you feel truly LUCKY and blessed to have so what better time to document that relationship than now!

This layout starts with (of course) Bazzill Palo Verde cardstock. Then I added varying pieces of 3 different papers from the Basic Grey Origins line-- Mineral Soak, Brown Sugar Scrub and Seaweed Wrap, don't those names sound wonderful? So relaxing, makes me feel like a trip to the spa! Two of the strips I punched with a border punch and then inked all of them with Tim Holtz Vintage Photo ink before adhering and adding some random brads. The title is also cut from the Orgins line, Hot Stone, and was cut on my Cricut with the Cuttin' Up cartridge. I added Stickles in Cinnamon to the edge of the title to give it a little sparkle. If you have never tried Stickles, you've got to get some-- some being the key because once you've tried one, you'll want to collect all the awesome colors! They are so fun and easy, you've gotta try 'em!

I used the Writers Block Journaling set from Basic Grey Origins to embellish the right hand side of the layout. The Writers Block is one of the cutest embellishments I have seen in a long time-- it comes with a mini memo pad you can adhere straight to your page and then journal inside, 2 sticky note pads (10 sheets each) and 2 diecut stacks (10 each). I used the large diecut and both sticky note pads on this layout and I was really pleased with the look, plus I still have so much more from that set to use on other projects.

Last I added just a few Petaloo flowers, some pearl accents, a spiral clip and some random ribbon. I hope you like my LUCKY layout and that you take some time in the near future to make a layout about someone you love and how lucky you feel to have them in your life!

And if you don't want to make a whole layout but would rather give that person a treat instead to show them how you feel, here's a quick idea for you: Take an empty flower jar (check out these Prima containers), decorate with paper and ribbons and fill with candy. Instant handmade treat anyone would feel LUCKY to get!

Make sure to check back tomorrow as the Luck O' the Irish continues and see what else our Design team has for you!

Feeling Lucky???

It's hump day!  Half way through the week already.  Time sure does fly when you are having fun.  It's Kimm again with another layout from Sharon, one of our in-store Designers.

This layout may not be "Irish", but it is green.  As for luck... well, the teams that were in the Superbowl were definitely "lucky" to be there.  And how lucky Sharon was to have the entire family there to celebrate.

The background paper is actually a paper we don't have listed online - sorry.  I'll work on that later.  The football was created using Macchiato patterened paper from the KaiserCraft CAFE CULTURE Collection.  Sharon continued to mix and match papers from Basic Grey's Origins Collection.  What a great combination!

I love this accent on the page.  Sharon simply cut a piece of brown bazzill and drew out a "play" with a white gel pen.  She then tied some Bazzill Tulle together, placed a few Origin's scraps around.  Finally, a Karen Foster's License Plate with some brads pulls it all together.  The title was created using Bo Bunny's double dot chipboard letters - another one I have to load online for you.
Lastly, Sharon created this adorable little bear and added him to the page.  Isn't he adorable!  I love the possibilities this layout has.
I hope you've enjoyed another design from our Girl Sharon.

It's St. Patrick's Day Week Are You Feeling Lucky.

Hi, Patricia here again. I hope you liked what you saw last week and just wait 'til you see all the wonderful creations we have in store for you this week. For this week's theme I made a St. Patrick's Day Card. I went a little non-traditional with this card and I hope you like it. I didn't have a St Patrick's Day stamp but I had lots of green and came up with this cute little card.

The paper I used for the card is Basic Grey Origins - Aloe. You have to see this paper in person it's so much prettier than what the picture shows. I used lots of Spellbinders on this card. I don't think I can make a card without them. They give your card that added touch. I used "Double Ended Tags", printed my saying out on the computer and cut it out. I also used "Pendants Fleur De Lis" as well as the "Fleur de Lis" Borderabilities, and I used the larger one from "Labels Five" for my Ballerina Fairy Stamp from Pixie Cottage. I colored my stamp with Copics and added diamond glaze and glitter to her wings. I used Color Box Ink, and Tim Holtz Distress Ink Vintage Photo. I also added a bow with a button, and the butterflies are from K & Company. I also colored the pearls with my Copics to match the cards color pattern.

I hope you like my card and be sure to check in tomorrow to see what we have for you.

Luck O' The Irish Week and a Wee Tutorial

Hello everyone, and a warm welcome to The Beary Scrap's Luck O' The Irish week! It's Susan here, and today I'm going to show you how I did this fun and funky crackled glass effect:
In the interest of full disclosure, I'll admit that this is the first time I've tried this effect. Since nothing is perfect the first time around, I'll also share a few boo-boos along the way.
Here's my supply list:
  • Heat gun
  • Clear slow-drying ink (I used Versamark)
  • Clear embossing powder (Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel [UTEE] is preferred)
  • Tim Holtz Distress Ink
  • Ink Blending Tool - in a pinch you can use makeup sponges, but they disintegrate quickly
  • A stamped and colored image of your choice (I used a vintage St. Patrick's Day image)
  • Optional is a containment tray and a heat-proof mat. If you don't have these, simply use one sheet of printer paper as a base for sprinkling embossing powder, and a separate page with slightly turned-up edges to capture fly-away embossing powder while you use the heat gun.
Step 1: Using your blending tool and a little distress ink, lightly dab along the edges to get a vintage-y look.

Step 2: Press your image into the Versamark ink to cover completely and then sprinkle a healthy layer of embossing enamel all over.
Step 3: Shake off excess powder and heat to melt. This will be the first of 3 rounds. :) Keep your heat gun about 6 inches (15cm) away, and move in a slow, circular motion. I found I had less fly-away in the beginning if I kept the gun directly above. I turned it on at about 8 inches above and lowered a few seconds later. Look for an orange-peel effect on the surface - you'll have to layer UTEE at least 3 times, and I've read that regular clear embossing powder will require 4-6 layers.
Steps 4 and 5: Repeat Step 3 until your image has a clear glassy topping. Be sure to allow a minute or two of cooling time before handling - it's hot!
Step 6: Put the image in the freezer for a minute or two to make the cracking easier. I highly recommend putting it between two flat objects to avoid curling. When it's still cold, carefully crack around the image to get your desired effect.
Here are lovely examples of my first two attempts at this technique:
Clicky to learn from my mistakes!
Step 7: Using your Distress Ink and Blending Tool, work the ink into the cracks and wipe away the excess.

Now you are ready to assemble your card! Here's mine:
There are a bunch of tiny blings and shimmers: I've touched the leaf edges and the very tips of the pink roses with Tea Dye Distress Ink, and the vintage rose die cut is enhanced with Stickles Star Dust. The Prima wild rose on the top left has been spritzed with Pearl Glimmer Mist, and the pearly pins were colored with a Copic.

Card Ingredients
Image: Vintage image printed at home
Papers: Basic Grey Origins - Seaweed Wrap, Bazzill in Pollen and Rain Forest
Medium: UTEE, Tim Holtz Distress Ink - Tea Dye, Stickles - Star Dust, Glimmer Mist - Pearl, Copic E11 Barely Beige
Embellishments: Assorted Prima flowers and leaves, pearl pins lace and metal bits from my stash

Thanks so much for visiting us today, and check back all week for more Luck O' The Irish from The Beary Scrap's Design Team.

Cheers,
Susan
