Welcome to our Beary Sweet Challenge #34

The design team sends out BIG thanks to everyone who joined our BSC #33 - we are so thrilled to see each and every one of you play along! We'll announce our random winner Sunday, September 18th. Thank you!

It's the 15th of the month, which means it's time for our new challenge. Whoo hoo! This time we're challenging you to make a project with a Fall or Autumn theme.

Happy Fall, Y'all!

It can be anything related to the season, from holidays to family rituals to school activities. You could even just use gorgeous Fall colors. The sky is the limit!

This challenge runs through September 30th at 11:59pm EST. One entry will receive a $20 gift voucher for The Beary Scrap. How cool is that? 

We will announce the random gift voucher winner and our "Beary Sweet Top 3" on October 4th.

Ushering in the Season...FALL

We have a new challenge and you're going to love it....HAPPY FALL Y'ALL! I adore the season of fall, it's my favorite. To me it's like everything is getting ready to go to sleep for the winter. The colors are so deep and rich and hearty...love, love, love. Can't you just smell the crisp air, the apples baking in the oven with a sprinkle of sugar and cinnamon and see the leaves starting to fall to the ground. How could that not give you warm fuzzies all over.

I used the new Authentique 6 x 6 paper pads (Glowing and Blissful) for this card. I inked it up with a bit of distress ink to give a bit more aged look and to blend with the Fall colors I was reaching for. That's the nice thing about distress ink...if your paper isn't quite what you want it to be in color or tone...ink that thing up.

This one I had a lot of fun with and I really like how it came out, OK I personally love how it came out. The challenge for the design team is to make it not Girly, well other than the flower I think its more creepy than Girly atleast thats what Im going with, lol.

All Things Grow Better With Love

You've just a few days left to play along with the September version of the Beary Scrap sketch challenge. This week, the designers are adding their favorite embellishments to their creations as well as using the sketch. I had to use handmade flowers, pearls, die cuts and ribbon! You know I couldn't get by with just one! The papers and stickers are from Echo Park's Victoria Gardens. I added some Viva Decor Pearls around the sticker, to jazz it up a little. The Pine Needles Distress Ink, was the perfect shade to ink my paper edges.

So what do you think our new challenge will be on the 15th? Any guesses? I know it's one you will have fun with!

A Sketch and A Snake-Oil Salesman (Updated!)

Hi folks! Happy Monday to you. I hope you had a nice weekend. Husband and I took a train up to NewYork to see a Broadway show. I love New York and all the hustle and bustle. I'm not going to take up your crafty time talking about the 9/11 anniversary, but I want to share one little experience with you.

As we sat in Penn Station to come home Sunday morning we could hear a pipe and drum band marching by outside. It was 8:35am and up until that moment the Amtrak station was full of the normal buzz. One by one, I could see the recognition of that sound dawn on my fellow travelers. I don't believe there is a sound more profound than a bagpipe, and a band can tear at the fibers of your heart while celebrating life, love and liberty. (Ok, I'm Scottish... can you tell?) The train station fell silent for a bit as we listened. It was a rare, truly poignant moment.

So this week the design team is wrapping up our September sketch challenge and late in the week Lori and Jamie will ring in an oh-so-timely theme challenge. As a way to spice up our final sketch samples Gini, Patricia and I are including our favorite embellishments. How easy is that?

 

Update: I added swirls of the Prima Say it in Crystals black rhinestones - love the effect!

I've used 3 favorites on today's card: lace, sewing and decorative pins! Haha - why chose just one when there are so many? The papers are from Authentique's "Glowing" 6x6 pad, and the image is one of my favorite vintage finds. The skeleton is a bit of a snake-oil salesman, isn't he? I have a whole collection of these Antikamnia Chemical Company calendar images (in full-color; black & white seemed perfect for this card, though). They really are quite amazing!

Trucks are not Girly, Right?

Happy Friday everyone! Here is my attempt at something "not girly"-- I agree with Lori, I love to put flowers, bling, ribbon and lace on everything-- it is hard to come up with something not girly. But I think my masculine birthday card based on our current sketch came out pretty well-



While trying to decide what to do I had a sudden flash of this green pickup that I had seen on the Country Drive from Echo Park stickers and knew that would be the focus of my card. There are a lot of colors in this paper line but I stuck with just red, green and blue for my boy colors.

I popped up my pickup truck with some foam squares and then filled up the back with "Happy Birthday" strips. I couldn't resist putting just a little Stickles glitter glue on it for some detail and a few green hearts off the same sticker page as the pickup. (Hearts can be on a guy card, right?)

Girly Card? NOT!

This week the design team wanted to take the challenge sketch but add a little twist, try to do the sketch and not make the card girly.  I really didn't think it was a big deal until I started trying to make the card and realized, yeap, I'm girly. 

I used Echo Parks "For The Record"...which was my attempt at using non-girly paper, LOL.  I'm not sure if I pulled it off 100% or not, my female personality comes through no matter if I want it to or not.

Thinking of You

It's time for our latest sketch challenge at the Beary Scrap, and I think you are going to like it! It's not a complicated sketch - just one that is open to so many possibilities.


I decided to go all out Shabby Chic for today. So of course, that calls for some wonderful, weathered pink papers. Authentique's Uncommon line was just perfect! Awhile back, I had bought some printed muslin, that looked like it had been stamped with vintage writings. I used a square of this, after fraying the edges for one of the components of the sketch. I gathered crepe paper on my sewing machine, and added a little seam binding over the top, for another layer. The bow is a 5-loop bow, with a snippet of antique lace, and a reclaimed button. I stamped my sentiment from Vintage Floral Labels from JustRite, using black Memento ink. Then I stamped the pattern from Friendship Blooms over the top, with Versamark Ink, and embossed it. Then I misted over the entire thing. I used a wonderful frame from Melissa Frances (that I distressed a bit), to set the whole thing off.
