Fond Farewell

This will be last post as a guest designer for The Beary Scrap. Before I show you all my layout, I just want to say how happy I am to have had this experience. Thank you for coming to look at my layouts and cards and thank you for giving me the privilege of being able to see all of your beautiful entries in our challenges.

For this layout, I challenged myself to use the scraps from last week's layouts. I am sure I am not alone when I say I have a big bin of paper scraps that I can't bear to throw out but never seem to turn to them when it comes to making something. So the pile just keeps getting bigger! I figured the best plan of attack was to use them right away.

I took my pile of scraps from the Cosmo Cricket 6x6 pads Upcycle, Social Club, and Salt Air and cut them into varying lengths, some at an angle. I didn't hesitate to use the negatives of the circles I punched or the little remaining pieces of border-punched paper. I adhered all the strips with my Pink ATG and then hand pierced a curlicue border all the way around the edges of the layout, and stitched with embroidery floss.

Using spray mists (check out the Glimmer Mist on sale), I splattered a few inky blotches over the background.

Using Pink Paislee Artisan Tape, I made some pennants as an embellishment. I simply wrapped tape around the top of the toothpicks and then cut the ends of the tape into pennant shapes.

Thank you so much for looking. I really look forward to seeing what sorts of embellishments you come up with! Remember, you have until 11:59 on June 30th to be entered to win a gift card to The Beary Scrap store.

Christmas in June

Hi there! Brenda again. Perhaps I'm yearning for cooler weather because I finally felt the urge to scrap a Christmas picture of my daughter. Hey, I've got one down, probably 100 more to go.

I used a few different lines on this layout, and as you can see, I used non-Christmas-themed papers for a Christmas layout. I think it worked quite well. This is a combination of Echo Park's Be Mine, and My Mind's Eye's Alphabet Soup, Lost and Found, and Fine and Dandy.

Instead of flowers, I decided to go with pinwheels. The tab on the top right corner was cut using my die cut machine.

The title was made using Fine and Dandy banner stickers. I think I need to buy a couple more sheets of those because they are just my absolute favorite!

Thank you so much for looking and I do hope you'll join us on our Sketch Challenge!

Faux-Hawk Girl

Hello everyone! I just looked at the date on my calendar and I can't believe we are almost halfway through 2011! This week, the design team is tackling the challenge of nature plus a charm.

When my daughter, Harper, was a newborn, she had quite a bit of hair. At about 3 or 4 months it started falling out and I would take her around town and people would remark about how she had a mohawk. Some people even asked us if we cut it that way. No, I did not cut my three month old baby girl's hair into a faux-hawk!

I used My Mind's Eye Alphabet Soup and Fine and Dandy on this layout. I did a little abstract representation of nature, but used the Fine and Dandy chipboard pieces to create a border of nature elements. I drew a stem and leaves under the round chipboard pieces and then poked holes with a paper piercer and stitched them with embroidery floss.

The "girl" in the title is from the Fine and Dandy chipboard. The charm is from my stash. And of course I had to use my favorite adhesive, my pink ATG.

I look forward to seeing everyone's "nature" projects. Have a wonderful weekend!

Runaway to the Islands. . .

. . . And beat those Winter Blues!!!!

I have to admit, I am utterly, completely, totally sick of winter and can't wait for it to be spring so I thought I'd use my project this week to spread a little of the sunshine I found on vacation to the Bahamas earlier this month -- this layout is sending rays directly to all of you out there!

The base of my layout is Doodlebug Chenille Crushed Velvet Cardstock-- a new paper for me and one that is currently an awesome price at our Beary Scrap Store. This paper is so cool, a really nice weight to work with and I love the velvet feel. I chose to use a plain white piece but then brushed over the velvet embossing with teal blue chalk to give it just a touch of color.

The designer papers I used are from the Echo Park Little Girl collection-- perfect bright colors for bringing a little sunshine to your projects. I also used some of the border and diecut stickers from that collection-- I absolutely love the Echo Park sticker sheets that come with their collections, they contain SO many pieces and are really versatile. I even used a scalloped tag from one of the sheets that originally said "tea for two" and just put my "February" letters over the original writing. I love being able to use up all the supplies that come with a kit or collection and sometimes they may not fit any of my projects, so it's good to just be creative and alter things to what I need!

I hope a little sunshine comes your way this weekend and that you have time to do your own Winter Blues project to enter in our current Beary Sweet Challenge. Remember, it can reflect winter or how you escape those winter blues-- however you want to take it! Enter your project before Feb. 28th 11:59 EST for your chance to win!

Day 3 is Sponsored by Sharon

Happy Wednesday Everybody!  It's Kimm here.  I hope you've been enjoying all the lovely creations our girls have been posting.  Aren't they AMAZING?  Thank you Gini and Patricia for the inspiration!  *round of applause*.

Well, I bet you didn't think you'd hear from me again this week? *grins*.  Today I am posting for Sharon.  Sharon is one of our in-store designers.  She is not a blogger yet, but I can bet you she will be before long!

Boys can often be very difficult to scrap for.  I, for one, have a hard time staying away from the "flowers and frills" when it comes to scrapbooking anything for my son.  So, how do we honor the little men in our lives with dignity by NOT embellishing their every action shot with pretties?  Sharon, having 2 boys (and 2 girls) can scrap anything for them or about them with ease.  So today, Sharon Celebrates...  "The Boys" and their newly designed bedroom surrounded with super heros.  Oh yes, and Wonder Woman has made her presence know... I've been told she is a representation of "Mom".

You should be able to click on the photo to enlarge it and get a close look at the details.

Sharon has used these wonderful neutral patterned papers from Dream Street's Fun and Games line.  Her title "No Girls Allowed" was cut with her Cricut machine.  A dark scallop crosses both pages that can be done using any edge punch.  Sharon then added a bit of Bo Bunny Double Dot Ribbon to add some more interest.  A buckle from her stash completed the look.

Now, if you click on the image to enlarge it, you will see some really cool "Circle Stitching" on the first page near the title.  Sharon used Bazzil In-Stitchz to complete this look.  It's really simple and adds that "little bit of extra" that we are always looking for to complete those "masculine" pages.

Sharon hopes you have enjoyed her layout.  Now get those photos of the boys out and get to work *wink*.
