Bee-Cause You're Sweet!

Hey Friends!  Well it's another Beary Sweet Challenge!  For this week, it's multi-fold cards, and I must say that I rather enjoyed making this card!  Something I've never done before, and pretty simple and so dimensional!

I've used this Magnolia Image since bees are just buzzing everywhere!!!  My gosh!  The other day I was out back, and this bumblebee would NOT leave me alone!!!  It kept following me everywhere and was totally SCARING the heck out of me!  Did it want to sting me or be my friend?  I don't know, but I didn't want any part of either!  Noooo, I don't want to be stung, and nooooooo, I don't want to be your friend!  "You FREAK ME OUT bumblebee!"  lol!  And "I don't have any nectar or pollen for you!!!"  Yikes!

Well, here's my card ... LOL!

Get Out Your Scoring Tools - It's "Fancy Folds" Week!

Hello!

What a beautiful weekend we had! We worked non-stop on the landscaping, and still have much to do. Where do all those weeds come from?! Yesterday we went to the garden center for flowering goodies and it seemed like the whole town was there, too. Yay for spring!

This week is our second Beary Sweet Challenge, and we're looking for Fancy Folds! All week the design team will show you our take on this fun challenge. We hope to see you each day for new inspiration.

I fell in love with this folded frame technique when I saw it on Theresa Pollack's entry in our last challenge. "Hmm...", I thought to myself. "What can I do with this?" I pondered and poked and poked and pondered until I thought, "Ooh, even better... What would our dear distressing Gini do with this fancy fold?" Of course, light bulbs clicked on above my head as I channeled my "Inner-Gini". (Ok, so maybe I only distressed the flap edges and not the whole card, but I'm still claiming Gini. *grin*) She's got a really cool style and constantly inspires and challenges me.

Now, before I forget or go off on a tangent, this technique can be found over at Splitcoast Stampers, an excellent resource for all kinds of new-to-me ideas.

The flaps are rolled a bit to give dimension. They're distressed with scissors and inked, and I'm still on the fence about using a brown Distress Ink on the edges. The dogwood branches were made some time last year for a scrapbook layout and never used. Now they finally have a home!

**Please scroll down for Gini's delightful "Sticks and Stones" themed card. It's a cutie!**

Welcome to our Beary Sweet Challenge #2

Our challenge this week is a technique:

Fancy Folds!

Show us your *new* project that has more than just the same ol' center fold. It can be any type of project you wish, as long as it uses a multiple fold technique. Throughout this week our design team will show you samples of this theme and hopefully give you a little inspiration, too!

This challenge runs through May 31st at 11:59pm EDT. The prize winner will be chosen by random.org and will be announced along with our "Beary Sweet Top 3" on June 3rd. What's the prize, you ask? A Scor-Pal! Just think about the fancy folds you can make with this baby!

Here are the "rules" to play:
  • Become a follower if you aren't already;
  • Link your blog post (not your blog "home page") or your online gallery submission with our Inlinkz frog below and leave a comment. Mention in your post you are entering your project in the Beary Sweet Challenge and/or tag your online gallery post with BSC#2;
  • Please, only one (1) entry per person. Links to projects/cards posted before May 15th will not be eligible for the prize draw.
Additional information:
  •  Feel free to combine with other challenges;
  •  All NEW project types are welcome as long as they follow our challenge technique (cards, scrapbook layouts, etc.);
  • International crafters can play, too!
Thanks for playing along!
Cheers,
Susan

My Big Catch! Or at least my Son's.

Well it's Sticks and Stones week and that works for me being a mom of 3 boys. I have lots to scrap about. Like my 1 page layout I made for this week.
Yes I have to admit that these are last years pictures. You can say that I'm a little behind in my scrapping, but who isn't.

My background is from Pink Paislee and it's new in the store. I hand cut my cat tails and the grass is made with a sun punch and cut in half. I used BoBunny Double Dots paper for the photo borders.

And of course I had to add a tear bear to this and he is so cute with his big catch.

Here is my little fishing tear bear with his big catch. I used one of Kimm's awesome Beary Sweet Templates.  They even have there very own blog with a tutorial and all kinds of information. Just Bear with Kimm she is working on the blog to make it even better. I hear that there maybe some new friends coming soon. I know I can't wait I love making these little guys.
The Beary Scrap Store has all the patterns, mulberry paper and tools to help you make these little cuties. The fish the bear is holding and the pole are parts from pattern by PPBL, I added stickles to the fish to make it shine.

I hope you like it.

A Boy and His Rocks

Isn't it funny how the smallest things entertain little kids? This is definitely true with my boys and rocks-- they could throw rocks into the lake at my grandparents' cabin all day and be perfectly happy! I think I need to take a lesson from the them, relax a little bit and have fun just throwing some rocks.

I used the Mr. Campy Collection from Cosmo Cricket for my page this week. I loved the muted colors in these papers and the fun patterns. I got these a couple of weeks ago from the Clearance section at The Beary Scrap. Unfortunately, it looks like they are gone now but make sure to check out the great deals Kimm has there, there are paper lines from lots of companies marked 20%, 35% and even 50% off! Besides Cosmo Cricket, I especially like the papers from Bo Bunny, Scenic Route, and the My Mind's Eye Just Dreamy papers so definitely take a look and scoop up some bargains!

A few tips & tricks I want to point out about my layout:

****To highlight the rocks and the movement of my little boy's hand while throwing, I created some circle frames to put right onto the photos. I used various circle punches, punched a circle, put aside the actual punched out paper and then carefully cut around the circle that was left in the sheet of paper to make a thin frame. This could be easily done with squares and ovals as well and is a different way to use your punches.

****I didn't have the exact color of aqua letters that really matched the paper, mine were a little bright and so I inked all over them with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Vintage Photo to tone down the bright color. It takes a bit longer to dry because the letters had a smooth finish but it turned out just the right color. You could also use some paint to do this. So next time you think you don't have the right color of letter stickers, just see what you can do to alter them instead of getting new ones. It's good to use up your stash!

****I decided to make my own rock accents, this was definitely an experiment! I drew a rock shape on a scrap piece of brown paper with Stickles Glitter Glue in Cinnamon and then filled in the inside of the shape with Glossy Accents clear, dimensional adhesive.

When it is filled in, it looks like this and it takes quite awhile to dry, I let mine sit about 5 hours before they were truly dry so this is not something you can just throw together for a quick page or card. But the dimensional adhesive is pretty cool and dries to a hard, clear, glossy finish that I was hoping mimicked the surface of a wet rock. My 6 year old daughter knew exactly what is was when I showed her and said "What does this look like?" so I was pretty pleased with the results.

****Lastly, I used Teardrop Rain Drops from Fiskars for the water splashes-- which were not quite as wet as the splashes that hit me while I was taking these pictures.

I hope you have some boys in your life to celebrate this week with either a card or layout-- be sure to check back tomorrow for more STICKS & STONES ideas! Don't forget to check out all the great bargains at The Beary Scrap in honor of National Scrapbooking Day (May 1) and you still have a few days left to enter our very first challenge (May Flowers) and a chance at winning a $20.00 gift certificate!

Wishing You A Happy Day!

Hey Friends!  Well, it's another fun week at the Beary Scrap blog!!!  Yayyy!  We were to create something with the theme of "Sticks and Stones" .... so of course I thought of this little guy that I used for my card!  :)

He's all sweet with his balloon, flowers and present, even a little kitty cat by his feet, but leave it to a little guy to have a wooden slingshot in his pocket!  lol!  I love it ... boys will be boys!  I can picture him giving all this sweetness to someone, and then run off to shoot pebbles into the water.  :)

The Boys of Summer

Hello friends! I hope you had a lovely Mother's Day weekend. I cleared 4 yucky ant-attracting shrubs (viburnum)  and countless daylilies from a flower bed that will become an herb and tomato bed. Yay! I've missed fresh herbs and home grown tomatoes and really look forward to their yumminess.

Our theme this week is "Sticks & Stones/For The Boys", and the Beary Scrappy Girls are challenged to make a project that is boy-related. I found this "Digital Pencil, Too" image ages ago and have looked  forward to using it.

I'm really pleased with this card. Admittedly, I didn't see "boy" when I received my Pink Paislee 365 paper pack, but it worked out really well. My little baseball player is double layered - luckily it doesn't weigh him down as he sails through the air! Notice the orange "8" on his shirt? It's my homage to Cal Ripken Jr., one of baseball's greats and a hometown hero. :)

Card Recipe
Well, that's it for me! I hope you come back all week for more fun and fabulous creations for the boys. Don't forget that our current challenge is on until the end of the day on May 14th. The theme is May Flowers and you can find all the details here. I hope to see you again!

Cheers,
Susan
