You're The Cherry On Top!

Hello hello dear friends! Whew - can't believe it's already Monday. Weekend was crazy busy at our house and I'm glad for a Monday break. :)

I am the "caboose" on our Beary Sweet "Friendship or Love" challenge. Today is the last bit of inspiration before a new challenge starts tomorrow. I consider this card 'light and airy' compared to my other samples. It's pretty versatile, don'tcha think?

It's the first time I've inked up a stamp in weeks - can you believe it? Sweet Tilda is a single layer... *gasp!* It's kind of refreshing to make a single layer image. Not sure how often I'll do it this way, but I do like this one! :)

All of the glitter detail (banners, dots, bird, etc.) is Stickles - the paper isn't glittered. I know! MME putting out a paper without glitter - what's up with that? Hee hee. This Tickled Pink line is absolutely adorable!

Heart Shaped Mini Album

Happy Sunday everyone-- Bringing you some more love and heart shaped ideas from The Beary Scrap. I am a big believer that Valentines' Day should celebrate more than just romantic love and I like to do lots of family things at this time of year to show my kids and others how much they are appreciated. So my project this week is a heart shaped mini album for my kids to give to their grandparents on Valentines' Day this year.

These chipboard albums were really fun to make and super quick as they are very small, only about three inches across. I used the Flirty line from Bo Bunny, perfect for Valentines' projects (and also on sale at The Beary Scrap, so now is a good time to stock up!). I traced all my hearts first, making sure I got just the part of the designer paper that I wanted and then cut them out. They are adhered with plain old glue stick, but two layers-- one on the back of the DP and one on the chipboard itself.

This paper line from Bo Bunny worked so great for this type of project-- each paper is double-sided so there are twice as many choices and they all coordinate. I chose to keep the colors together and made three sections-- 1 blue, 1 pink and 1 green for each of my three children.

To embellish each page, I used some of the Flirty stickers from the same paper line and added a sepia toned picture of my kids plus a handwritten note they wrote. Plus then I added some random embellies like fiber, a ticket, a doilie, punched hearts and ribbon.

My little three year old even added his own unique version of his name-- he's just learning how to write it and I think it's super cute! (It's Jace, by the way, if you can't decipher his letters below!)

The final page has a picture of all three, and a little note for Grandma & Grandpa, placed on top of those cute Flirty birds.

That's it for my friendship/love projects and I want all of you out there to know how much I have LOVED looking through the projects you have entered in our friendship/love challenge. Thank you for sharing your talents with us! And if you still have a project to share, there's still time! Link it up before tomorrow night at 11:59 EST for your chance to win!

A little more Love from The Beary Scrap

Have you had a chance to play in our Beary Sweet Challenge? We have had a lot of really nice entries and would love more. Our challenge is
Friendship or Love
and for the Design Team we added a Heart.
When Kimm got this new Graphic 45 paper in the store it looked very pretty on the computer but in person it's ever more pretty. I can see so much that can be done with this paper so you better not wait and go buy some before I get back online to the store and buy it up, lol.

My cute little bride digi is from Lisa of Precious Piecings and she has it free at the moment but if you like it don't wait cause it won't be free for long. You can get her ---HERE--- . I printed her on X-Press It Paper thats currently sold out at the store but watch for it soon to be back in stock and colored her with Copics and added Stickles to her flowers. My hearts were cut out with Spellbinders and all my paper is from Graphic 45. I hand stitched around the edges and added some pearls. I added some miscellaneous ribbon from my stash and a Mulberry Flower.
Now you only have a few days left to enter our Beary Sweet Challenge and you can enter you card ---HERE---.

Now if you haven't peeked at the store for a bit Kimm now has the German Glitter Glass from Meyers that has been all over blog land and she has it ready to ship. Check it out I have just got mine from Kimm and watch for this very pretty glitter to be on some of my up and coming projects.

Thanks for looking.

Beary Scrap Loves You!

Hi, It's Gini and this is the second week of the Love/Friendship theme at the Beary Scrap . As you know, I love this Be Mine paper from Echo Park. I also got to use some of our new German Glass Glitter - I used the silver around my flourishes and the transparent pink around the inner heart. I combined cuts from the regular Spellbinders nestie heart set and the Nested Hearts set. By doing so, it left me the perfect little hole to attach my ribbon through.

We hope that you will come play along - There's a $20 goft certificate to be won!

I Adore You

Hello dear friends! I hope you had a great weekend. We had arctic temperatures here on the Eastern Shore. Brr! I'm feeling *really* lucky to have the new furnace. (Yep - the old one died and we had to replace it right before our HVAC guy went on a Caribbean cruise.)

As you know we're smack in the middle of our current Beary Sweet Challenge - "Love or Friendship". While you're working on your fabulous entries the design team is adding a little bam! to our "love or friendship" projects in the form of a heart shape.

My card is made almost entirely of My Mind's Eye's Union Square paper and embellishments. Oh how I love this whole MME Lost and Found Collection! Besides Union Square, there are three more lines I haven't even touched yet. I can't wait!

The background paper is "Birds of a Feather" dry embossed with a Cuttlebug folder, and the Love layer is simply cut from the 12x12 Love Glitter Paper. The rosette, banner (also dry embossed with a Cuttlebug folder) and pearly brads are from Union Square accessory packs.

On the inside is a Spellbinders-cut panel edged in red Stickles. The top flap with the red banner is just the top left corner of the same 12x12 paper from which I cut the "Love". The "I Adore You" die cut panel and mini pearly brads are also from Union Square accessory packs.

Thanks so much for visiting us today! Tomorrow Gini will have more inspiration, and we all hope you can join us for our Beary Sweet Challenge #18: Friendship or Love. It's open until January 31st and you could win a $20 gift voucher from The Beary Scrap!

Just For You...

Hello Friends!  It's Kimm.  Believe it or not, today I actually have a card to share with you.  We all know that doesn't happen to often - LOL.  After all the snow days we had this past week, the kids were home from school all but 1 and 1/2 days.  You can imagine by the end of the week I was pulling my hair out.  Mamma needed some serious down time :).  With more snow in the forecast next week, I may find myself finally scrapbooking too.

Our Challenge theme this week is  "Friendship or Love".  I have been dying to play with Echo Park's "Be Mine" Collection.  I just love the colors and the prints.  This is such a great line.  The prints are so versatile and can be used year round.

I used and adorable Cherri with Rose stamp from Tickled Pink Stamps.  You will be seeing these cutie's coming to our store in the very near future too.  Cherrie has been colored with Copic Markers.  I'm not thrilled with my coloring, but since I haven't picked up a marker since October 2010, I don't think I did too bad of a job. I applied a layer of stickles to the rose.  Of course the entire card is distressed and inked up with Chestnut Roan fluid chalk.  I've added lots of ribbon and lace from my stash.

The sentiment is a digital stamp I created.  I printed it out, colored the heart in with copic markers and applied some red stickles to the surface.   If you would like the free download for this digi, please visit my blog HERE.

I'm glad you stopped by.

Jamie's Friendship Card

I think maybe Patricia and I have switched places this week, since she made a layout and I have a card to share with you-- but we have one thing in common, we both added Tear Critters to our Love & Friendship projects. Good Friends think alike!

My card is an accordion style card made from envelopes, it's easy to put together, fairly light and has built in pockets for any goodies you want to slip into your card. I started with 4 regular sized (4 3/8 inch x 5 3/4 inch) envelopes.

I laid out three of the envelopes, gluing each flap to the front of another envelope like below:

The fourth and final envelope I turned the opposite direction, tucked its flap into the opposite envelope so that two of the pockets were facing each other.

This makes an accordion that looks like this:

Then I just began covering and decorating the inside of my card. I used the My Mind's Eye Fine & Dandy Tickled Pink line, which for me is just perfect for a Friendship/Valentine's card because it is simply cute and not too overwhelmingly "mushy" (as I am not a super big fan of Valentines' Day!)

I ended up covering up two of the envelope pockets and then using the other two to include small tags. This would be a perfect place to slip in a little bit of money for a birthday, pictures for grandparents and other relatives or a gift card to someplace fun!

For the front, I have been waiting for just the right project to use "Sidney the Skunk" and I was so excited to make this cute little guy. He was a breeze to make with Kimm's great pattern, directions and mulberry paper.

Here's a couple more views from different angles:

Thanks so much for stopping by today and please leave us a comment if you have a minute! And remember our current Beary Sweet Challenge-- there are some wonderful entries so far and I've enjoyed visiting your blogs to view your creativity!!

Love Bears by Patricia

Friendship or Love?
Well my cute little bears choose Love this week.
I haven't made a layout in a while and I figured it was about time.
My center mat will hold a 5x7 photo.

Bears, Bears and more Bears, these cute bears were made with Acrylic Paper Piecing Patterns from The Beary Scrap Store and the Baby Beary that was given as a special on the last new release. Watch for the Baby Beary coming soon to the shop. They were made with Mulberry Paper and the edges of the Bears were highlighted with Colorbox Ink. I cut out the cute little hearts they are holding with Spellbinders and sprayed them with Glimmer Mist. My very pretty paper is from Echo Park the Be Mine Line. I also punched out my boarder lace with a Martha Stewart Lace Punch. I have Say It In Pearls by Prima and  I added some Berry Red Pearls from Queen and Co.  My rose flower at the top is also from Prima. I used lots of buttons from my stash and some heart shaped hat pins.

Gini's Friendship card

Hi, It's Gini here to share with you my first Friendship/Love themed card. Since that's our theme, you know I had to use Echo Park's Be Mine collection. I think by now, I am their's - LOL! The stamp is from JustRite Stampers and was colored with Copics and inked with Worn Lipstick Distress ink. I sewed some button hole trim on canvas and colored it with Glimmer Mist. I made my paper ruffle by scoring (on my Scor-pal) every half inch on black cardstock, gluing ribbon along one edge with Scor- tape and then pleating it.

Thanks for looking - you have until January 31st to play along.

The 411 on Love

Please scroll down for our BSC #17 winners - thanks everyone!

Hello hello and Happy Monday! We're off on a new challenge here at The Beary Scrap DT and Challenge blog. Our theme for this challenge is

Since Husband and I love each other dearly but *don't* observe Valentine's Day, I started out with a friendship theme. As things happen, this card took on a life of it's own and I've fallen in love with it. *grin*

The flower... oh the flower! Don't you just love it? I used Patricia's video tutorial for my flower and made it using Basic Grey's Curio paper. (The flower is the large template.) I can't wait to try it with grungepaper. Check it out HERE at her blog! Thanks so much Patricia for putting together such a wonderfully detailed tutorial.

The "Things I Love" layer is a card stock embellishment from the My Mind's Eye/Laundry Line/Coastal collection. Yes, I know it says "things" as in plural... but I'm claiming artistic license and only listing one thing - YOU. *wink* I spritzed it with a little water and carefully crunched it up to get the creased effect and allowed to dry. Then I spritzed with Pearl Glimmer Mist for the sparklies.

Some other details - the butterfly is from one of the Curio papers. I painted it with Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint, dried, cut out and inked the edges with Distress ink. The antennae are hand made with a piece of black wire, dried glue and black paint. The Scrabble tile edges were roughed up with a nail file and consoled with a walnut ink-stained chunk of foam.

Thanks so much for visiting! I hope we can inspire you throughout the week to join our challenge before January 31st.

Susan

Something Sketchy, Something New

Here is my version 2 of our current Beary Sweet Challenge Sketch, this time with something "NEW" added to keep it interesting. This was a great sketch to work with and perfect for my daughter Lindsey's 7 year old portrait (isn't she cute? I know, I am biased!)

Last week I showed you the new My Mind's Eye Fine & Dandy True Blue line and this week I used the other side of the line, Tickled Pink, and I love these papers just as much as the boy ones! The colors are really bright and fun, plus they have that little bit of brown that is my go-to color. The embellishments include chipboard stickers and borders, awesome trims, brads, gems and the darling layered stickers (check out that bird in the upper left-hand corner, so cute!) This is a collection you just have to have-- girl or boy or both!

For my something "NEW," I have used some fabric on my layout. This is not something I do-- I do not like sewing very much and do not even have very much fabric so this was definitely new for me! I decided to make some "Yo-yos" to put on my layout and even though I know these have been around forever, I still want to give you a few instructions on how to do it, in case this is "NEW" for you too!

First, cut out a circle that is about double the size of what you want it to be when you are done-- you can trace a circle template onto fabric but trust me, it does not have to be a perfect circle because you are going to gather up all the edges anyway. So I just free hand cut mine and it worked great!

Next, use a needle and thread (a good strong thread that won't break when pulled) and take a running stitch all the way around the outside of the circle, working on the right edge of the fabric, with the back side facing down.

Now you pull your thread to gather in all the edges, it starts to look kind of like a tiny shower cap. Pull the thread tight until there is not a hole in the middle and then tie it off.

Finally, press the center of the "yo-yo"down flat with the now closed up hole in the center. Embellish the center with buttons, brads, jewels or whatever else you can think of!

That's it! Now you have a cute flower "yo-yo" to place on any layout or card. Adhere it with a strong adhesive such as Alene's Tacky Glue.

I hope you liked my sketch plus something new, be sure to take a quick minute and leave me (or any of the other DT members) a comment about our projects this week. We LOVE hearing from you and want to know what you think about our creations.

I have LOVED seeing your interpretations of our sketch and all the lovely projects you have been creating. You still have a little bit of time left to join our challenge, so link up your project by 11:59 EST TONIGHT for your chance to win a voucher to The Beary Scrap! And just a reminder, Kimm still has some awesome deals in her clearance section so take a peek and see what you need for your stash!

Patricia's Take 2 On Our Sketch Challenge

Have you gotten a chance to play in
Well here is another look at our challenge and just for us design teams girls added a little twist to our cards. We had to add something new to our sketches. I add this new very cute paper piecing pattern by Little Scraps of Heaven. Tricia's pattern also make perfect clothes for
The Beary Scraps Tear Bear Patterns.
Now this cute little bear is surrounded by paper from Echo Park from the Be Mine Paper Line and it's so pretty. For the edges of my bear I used White Colorbox Chalk. I highlighted him with a White Gelly Roll Pen. I used some miscellaneous ribbon and stickers from my stash. I added some Pearls the the sides. Now you still have time so lets see what you can do with our sketch.

Thanks for looking.

2nd Round - Beary Scrap Sketch

Hi, it's Gini and it's my turn to take another swing at our sketch. (Remember you have until January 14th to play along). For my card today I used Sweet Love from Belles n Whistles. I've got some great news for you - Kimm is going to start carrying BnW stamps at the Beary Scrap! Can a hear a big YAY!? This was the perfect stamp to pair with Echo Park's Be Mine papers (I'm telling you, you will want to use this paper year round - not just for Valentine's Day!) Edited to add: Here's another surprise - See that very yummy glass glitter that I used....? Guess what is on it's way to the Beary Scrap? You are going to love it!

The DT decided that this week, to celebrate the New Year, we would add something new to our card. So this afternoon, my mail lady delivered me some yummy German glass glitter, which I used on the hearts on my card. It is so sparkly and pretty in person! My other new thing that I used was the Spellbinders Labels 16 - this has such a beautiful shape, and Kimm has it in stock!

Thanks for looking!

Tag, You're It

Hello friends! I hope you had a swell weekend. I'm not really sure what we did... oh, right... took down the Christmas trees and decorations and stored 'em away for another year. Post Christmas shopping found a great ornament organizer that now hold scads of glass ornaments without a single piece of tissue wrap. Yay! Besides carrying the bins from the attic to the first floor, the "job" we hated the most was unwrapping (and rewrapping) all those darn keepsakes. Now we can decorate directly from the trays and have more time for eggnog. *wink*

This week the design team will show you new interpretations of our BSC #17 Sketch Challenge. We're also adding a "new" element to our projects:

Sketch Plus Something New

Everyone who comes to see my newest colored Magnolias will think I've fallen off my rocker this week. I'm OK, really! I've always been a fan of collage style and especially like what Tim Holtz has to offer our crafty community. I'm hugely inspired by vintage - be it ephemera or textiles, new or reproduction, I'm all over it. You might have seen oversized tags on blogs throughout the internet over the Christmas season - mostly inspired by the very same Tim Holtz. With this project I've dipped my toe in the water. My "new" is a tag shape made with a new Tim Holtz die!

Kinda cool, no? All of the papers are My Mind's Eye Union Square, from the beautiful and brilliant "Lost and Found" series. The "Home is a Little Slice of Heaven" die cut is from the Union Square accessory sheet. The pointing hand brad is from the same line (although the brad pack is currently sold out - sorry!).

I have to share a happy accident. The tag was assembled with Frosted Lace Stickles on the top flourish. I decided it needed to be a little flashier and added a layer of Platinum Stickles and used a heat gun to dry it. Little did I know that the heat gun was also doing interesting things to the Bazzill tulle! It curled edges and made much of the tulle wavy - luckily I caught it before it burned the edges brown. I like the tattered effect!

This was a really simple project to conceive, and agonizing to finish. I'm still thinking I need to balance the glitter swirl on the top with a touch of the same on the bottom. What do you think? I'm open to suggestions!

Card Recipe
  • Paper - My Mind's Eye Lost and Found, Union Square line: "Home Sweet Home" tag paper; "Favorite"- red circle layer and embossed layer under the "home" die cut
  • Medium - Distress Ink in Walnut; Stickles; Glimmer Mist in Suede - spritzed the red and ivory corner tulle bits to "dirty them up"
  • Embellishments - MME Lost and Found, Union Square line: Glittered Accessory Sheet; Bazzill Basics Tulle (in stock but not on the site - email Kimm for more info if you would like to get some in your hot little hands); metal bits from my stash; vintage tatting lace from my much-coveted stash
  • Adhesive - Scor-Tape; 1/2" Glue Dots; Fabri-Tac
That's it for me! Please come back throughout the week to see new samples for our sketch challenge by all the fabulous design team. You can get all the details and enter your own creation by clicking on the sketch below. You could win a $20 gift voucher from the Beary Scrap!

Cheers,
Susan

A Baby Book Sketch

Happy New Year and welcome to 2011 at The Beary Scrap! For my first post of this new year I am excited to show you my take on our sketch for the current Beary Sweet Challenge. I am working on a baby book for a friend of mine and used the sketch to make the title page for her album:

I used the brand new My Mind's Eye line Fine & Dandy True Blue (boy) and I love, love, love this cute collection. ( I have the girl line too so you'll be seeing it in my future posts as well!) The colors and patterns are so awesome and just perfect for boys of all ages-- I thought they were fun colors for a baby book-- definitely little boyish but not the traditional baby blue.

For this title page I also used some random ribbons, letter stickers and stars diecut on my Sizzix. And what could be more perfect for a darling little boy than Oliver the Dog?

I used Kimm's awesome Oliver pattern, mulberry paper and Tear Bear tools to make my little puppy and added him to the page. Over the next week, I will be posting other pages from this album one my blog, so come check them out for more baby book ideas and more looks at this great paper line, including matching buttons, brads and chipboard accents.

Now it's your turn and I can't wait to see what you come up with using this sketch-- remember it can be a card or a layout and entering it by 11:59 EST on Jan. 14th for a chance to win a voucher to The Beary Scrap.

The Beary Scrap Sketch Challenge by Patricia

Ready for a new sketch challenge from
The Beary Scrap?
How many people are ready for a new holiday to play with
ME
As much as I loved making Christmas cards I had my fill of red and green. Now its time to play with some pink and black for Valentines Day and Echo Park has some very pretty papers. Kimm has lots of new Echo Park paper in the Store and today I used some of it for my sketch card.
Do you not LOVE the Tear Bears!! I made my adult Tear Bear sitting and if you got in on the last release special and got yourself one of the Baby Bear Tear Bear Acrylic Patterns don't worry they will be released in the Store soon. I made my nice fluffy Tear Bears with Mulberry Paper. I added ColorBox Ink to my bears to outline them and to my small heart. I added some ribbon from my stock and cut out my hearts with Spellbinder Dies.
Here is the sketch you have to follow.
Now lets see what you can do.
